Marina Antunes [Film Festival 08.06.21] comedy

While all of writer/director Richard Bates, Jr.'s movies have a streak of humour, with his latest the director seems to be going full comedy.

Making its world premiere at Fantasia, King Knight stars Matthew Gray Gubler and Angela Sarafyan as Thorn and Willow, husband-and-wife high priest and priestess of a coven of witches. Thorn and Willow's life is thrown into turmoil when Willow uncovers a secret from Thorn's past and while the trailer doesn't say what exactly that secret is, it's clear that it doesn't only affect the couple but the entire coven.

The movie also stars Nelson Franklin, Johnny Pemberton, Barbara Crampton, Ray Wise, Andy Milonakis, and the voices of Aubrey Plaza, and AnnaLynne McCord.

While the teaser doesn't give much in the way of plot, it certainly provides a pretty great feel for Bates' latest project including the quirky characters we've come to appreciate from him but this time in a movie that doesn't seem to be quite as violent as his previous offerings.

King Knight is making its world premiere at Fantasia on August 8.
