The master of horror himself, Stephen King, said this about the movie. "The first authentically shocking American film I've seen since Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer over 20 years ago. If you are easily disturbed, you should not watch this movie. If, on the other hand, you are prepared for a long look into hell, suburban style, The Girl Next Door will not disappoint. This is the dark-side-of-the-moon version of Stand By Me."

If that isn't a fine endorsement, I don't know what is. I originally found out about this via our friend Jens Wolf (director of Noctem) and he loved the book, so I'm looking forward to seeing the movie. (Yeah I'll skip the book, thanks.)

"In 1958 a 13 year old girl who was in the care of her aunt was brutally tortured. She was locked in the basement where she was tortured in ways few can imagine. She was starved, raped, burned with cigarettes, and deprived of things many take for granted such as a bathroom. She lived this hell until she finally died from malnutrition and injuries sustained from torture three months later."
