Rumor has it that German director Roland Emmerich wants to once again destroy the world and has let some choice studio execs read a new post apocalyptic film he's written that goes by the working title of 2012. Besides the title being a reference to the famous Mayan doomsday prophecy, little more is known about the script other than the fact that everyone's clamoring to win rights ownership to it.
To be completely frank with you all, I'm kind of a closet Emmerich fan and love the idea of his working on a new PA flick. I know, I know, it's Spielbergian drivel at the best of times, but nobody destroys things like this man. I mean Harryhausen did a good job in his day, but when those Aliens in ID4 took out NY and Washington it took action oriented PA to a whole new level. And the funnel storms in The Day After Tomorrow? C'mon!

Haha, it's kind of a love hate thing. If you've seen Roland Emmerich's low budget ET rip off Making Contact you'll see that indeed he's not that great with a low budget.

UPDATE ALERT!! So after what seemed like 5 minutes the big battle over who will back Roland's 200 milllion dollar PA film is over. For those who care, Sony has officially won out with shooting due to begin in late summer / early autumn this year.
