Okay that's it. Russian director Timur Bekmambetov is officially on my s#!t list for announcing to NY Comic Con yesterday that he has no intentions of capping off Sergei Lukyanenko's amazing vampire trilogy with the much anticipated Dusk Watch. Instead Bekmambetov is telling us vampire fans to consider Wanted his Dusk Watch as they are, in effect, "the same genre." Uh, I guess so. I mean sure the classic mythological overtones are both there. The awakening of an unlikely hero, the loss of innocence blah blah blah but one is based on a staggering trilogy of complex Russian literature and the other is, well, a comic book. And you can forget those rumors that Fox Searchlight might be gutsy enough to continue the trilogy in English and without him. According to IFC, there's a pretty good chance the studio has been inflicted with a hefty case of cold feet due to less than staggering Day Watch returns here in the West. Dang, this sux.

Said Bekmambetov about Dusk Watch: "[Wanted] is my Dusk Watch for now," the director said during the panel, "because it's really the same chance, a different story, but the same genre. Unfortunately I don't know when Dusk Watch will happen… Let's say this is Dusk Watch."

Awww, that sucks enormously! Maybe the Russian Mafia wanted their cut and so died the trilogy. I'll just have to read the books, as if this was going to stop me LOL
