quietearth [Celluloid 04.25.08] zombies movie news horror

Wow, I was watching this one late last year and gave up as it look like it was going nowhere, but alas, in my Inbox this morning I see news of the film shooting, specifically in Port Gamble, WA. In fact, they're calling for zombie extras for April 29th and 30th, so if you have any interest, drop us a line and we'll send you details! As for the movie, all we really know right now is the logline: "Frida Abbas, a young Iranian-American girl, is blamed for a zombie epidemic that destroys the small town of Port Gamble." The website has had no updates since October of last year so hopefully we'll know more soon.

I hope you don't think this has anything to do with the popular Red 5 Comic ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction, it does not. Due to a confidentiality clause in my contract I can't divulge too much info but I was a crew member on the film shoot and it has nothing to do with the comic. In fact, the writer/director, and the producer were flabbergasted to hear of the comic. Expect the movie title to change as I've heard the actual comic has been optioned this spring.

To follow up on the previous comment, ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction (2009) is totally unrelated to the comic series of the same name. I am not a representative of the film's production company, Typecast Pictures, but as a principal member of the cast, I have some knowledge of the situation: Our script was developed with its current title several years before the Red 5 comics were published. There was no prior knowledge of the existence of the comics when we began production. There is absolutely no plan to change the title...in addition, Zombies of Mass Destruction will world premiere at the Washington, DC Int'l. Film Festival on April 18th. Writer/Director Kevin Hamedani will attend a second screening on April 25th. ZMD will also be seen at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Int'l. Film Festival and several other festivals throughout the spring and summer. See our trailer at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7fudSMOva4
