Screened in the Un Certain Regard section in Cannes, Johnny Mad Dog is about the child soldiers of Liberia's civil war which ended in 2003. Our friend James L. Frachon saw this and passed along that he thought it was great, and after checking out the footage myself, I see it has quite a bit of potential, being somewhat similar in nature to City of God. "Today, in contemporary Africa. Johnny, 15, a kid-soldier with the look of a gangsta rapper, armed to the hilt, is inhabited by the mad dog he dreams of becoming. With his small commando - Baby AK, Small Devil, Chili Pepper, he robs, pillages, and slays everything in his path. Laokole, 13, pushing her disabled father around in a rickety wheelbarrow, attempting to invent the glorious future which her brilliant studies seem to have in store for her, strives to flee her city occupied by teenage-soldier militias, with her little brother Fofo, 8. As Johnny advances, Laokole flees..." Check out the trailer after the break!

THE MOVIE SHOULD'VE BEEN SHOT IN CONGO. NOT IN LIBERIA BECAUSE THE STORY RELATES EVENTS THAT TOOK PLACE IN BRAZZAVILLE AND OTHER TOWN AND CITIES LOCATED IN THE REPUBLIC OF CONGO(BRAZZAVILLE).

No, Val. Please don't say this film should not have been shot in Liberia. (I dont mind you saying that it should have been shot in Congo: you have good reason for that. But, I have seen, known, been terrified by, had huge compassion for, the child soldiers of Liberia. I have seen children being raped of their childhood..in Liberia..exactly as portrayed in "johnny mad dog". May this thing never happen again..in congo, liberia...or anywhere.
