Based on the book by Steven-Elliot Altman, Zen in the art of Slayign vampires has gotten great reviews and is said to delve into the philosophical and mystical nature in the art of zen, compassion, and slaying vampires. Russell Mulcahy is attached to direct, and while he doesn't have anything of note besides the original Highlander (and the terrible RE: Extinction) under his belt, it could work. Altman will be doing the screenplay adaptation. "A vampire uses zen meditation to overcome his blood lust and is recruited by an underground organization known as The Ministry to help wage war on the undead. No vampire has ever refused to partake in the ritual...until now. Death deals no mercy to one man who rises in a SoHo alleyway to find his lover dead and his own body ghastly transformed... Straining to overcome his murderous instincts through zen meditation and blood deprivation he is reclaimed by The Ministry, an underground society waging war with the undead. Again and again he will find his will to resist tested by the killers who demand his allegiance and the zen masters who will burn him down at his first missed step as he strives to walk a tightrope between the living and the dead... to master himself and the way of the wooden stake." IMDB has this listed with a released date of 2008 and a status of "in production", I hope we get to see some footage soon.
