[Editor's Note: Multiple Personality Disorder Reports are news blasts to let you know about the stuff that didn't make it to the news page but still had us talking behind the scenes]
#1: Gotham buys a Minotaur
Steven Sherrill's 2000 novel, "The Minotaur Takes a Cigarette Break," has been optioned bt Gotham Group with the hopes of turning it into a live action film. The book, which "centers on the mythical half-man, half-bull minotaur who was supposedly slain by Theseus 3,000 years ago and now lives a lonely life in a Wichita trailer park, making ends meet as a short-order cook in a rundown diner," has been adapted by Mike Jones. No director is attached yet
Sounds like it could be the makings of an American riff on Executive Koala or something. [Via: Variety]
#2: A WORLD WITHOUT WOMEN?
Louis Palma will be shooting an indie film starting around April 10th which should interest Quiet Earth readers as it's called World Without Women. Logline: "Looie and Jer, mid 30's children, discover along with the rest of the male population that all the women in the world have disappeared and must survive to find reason in an attempt to bring them back. We've already been in touch with the director and we'll be following along with production, so we'll let you know when there's more.
#3: Julia Roberts Finds Christ in a Petri Dish
Oh my god, are we actually reporting on a Julia Roberts project? Is it the end of the world? Nah, it's just an interesting sounding concept is all. based on Dennis Lee's Student Academy Award-winning short film of the same name, Jesus Henry Christ "follows Henry James Hermin, a boy conceived in a petri-dish and raised by a loving, left-wing feminist. At the age of 10, he decides his mother's love is not enough and begins to follow a trail of Post-It notes stuck around town hoping it will lead him to his biological father." Lee is writing the script and will direct. [Via: THR]
#4: Alexandre Aja to Direct Contractor after Piranha 3-D
This project sounds like a pretty cool dystopian combat pic. In the face of economic armageddon, governments can't afford to go to war (what a shame hey?) so instead hire out private "Contractors" to go overseas and perform all kinds of nefarious missions. The drama, written by Ian Jeffers and produced by French banner Gaumont, will be directed by High Tension, Hills Have Eyes, and Mirrors director Aja who will tackle it after his Piranha flick for Dimension. #5: SFMOMA Presents Dystopian Film Series Exhibition
Anyone who's stone cold chilling in San Fran between now and April 25 should take in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art's The Future of the Past: Utopia/Dystopia, 1965-1984 and attend some screenings of post-apocalyptic and dystopian classics. The screenings are presented in conjunction with the architecture and design exhibition "Patterns of Speculation: J. MAYER H" and will feature Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange, Fleisher's Soylant Green, Laloux's Fantastic Planet, Tarkovsky's Stalker, Godard's Alphaville, Radford's amazing 1984, Truffaut's Fahrenheit 451, Michael Crichton's Westworld, and camp classic Logan's Run. Sweet. Thanks to Quiet Earth reader Sonaboy for the heads up.
#6: Warner Brother's is remaking Stephen King's IT!
I still like "It." A lot actually. It's not quite as crap-my-pants-I-can't-sleep scary as it was the first time I ever saw it but it could be to a whole new generation which is why I'm glad to hear that Warner Brothers is planning a redo. Ecxcept... they want to make it a standard 90 minute feature so it could be truncated to the point of loosing some of the characters' integral backstories. [Via: Variety
