What's that? Image Comics famed The Walking Dead, about a cop leading a crew through a zombie infested post apocalyptic world, is close to a development deal with cable network AMC?
According to Variety, Darabont will write and direct the series with executive producers Gale Anne Hurd (Valhalla Pictures) and David Alpert (Circle of Confusion), but no studio is yet attached. AMC's Senior VP of programming said "The series will stay faithful to the tone of the original novels".
Now, I now we're all excited with this great news, but don't hold your breath. Hopefully we'll hear more soon!

Fucking aye! One of the greatest pieces of zombie fiction. It's up there with Romeros earlier movies. It can only really be faithful as a tv-series so this is great news. Would work great on HBO. I know Robert Kirkman (the writer) has been turning down offers right and left waiting for a good one so I trust this will be faithful.

but I wish it wasn't Frank Darabont that passed that hurdle. his films are too clean, and no where near gritty enough for the wonderful Walking Dead.

I will be so damn angry if they change the zombies to the running kind though..

Awesome news! Hope this one kicks ass. In someway the third Resident Evil film reminded me of The Walking Dead. The series should get that vibe.

Darabont has acquired the assistance of a studio to produce the series with a good sized budget. The only problem I see is that it's AMC. Commercials and no gore to be shown. Would have been better on Showtime, HBO or Cinemax. Prove me wrong AMC.
