You don’t have to be a connoisseur of Japanese cinema to know who Takeshi Kitano is. The man’s made a name for himself exploiting the Japanese mobsters and doing so with great style and fervour.

Some have found his films over the last few years to have been a bit on the snoozer side of things and it was assumed that Kitano had lost the energy that had made his early work so enjoyable but it looks like the old Kitano is back (to the happy cries of many a fan).

The official synopsis:

The story begins with Sekiuchi (Kitamura Soichiro), boss of the Sannokai, a huge organised crime syndicate controlling the entire Kanto region, issuing a stern warning to his lieutenant Kato (Miura Tomokazu) and right-hand man Ikemoto (Kunimura Jun), head of the Ikemoto-gumi. Kato orders Ikemoto to bring the unassociated Murase-gumi gang in line, and he immediately passes the task on to his subordinate Otomo (Beat Takeshi), who runs his own crew. The tricky jobs that no-one wants to do always end up in Otomo's lap...

Outrage features the yakuza and Kitano being his lovable old self. This first teaser doesn’t feature a whole lot of action but man, does it suggest it!

Lost the energy? Speak for yourself :D

Not every movie has to be about yakuza, you know... I think in particular Achilles and the Tortoise (2008) was quite beautiful and touching.

Love how they say "Outrage" in the trailer btw...

First of all Marina, exploiting the Yakuza, would be a very hard matter, if you really get what I mean; so think for a moment about what you wrote, and put into the picture a fact and a question why was it done, and was it sanctioned or not.

As for the loss of energy, I also disagree, as not every movie has to be about flashy action, chopping of bodies, and explosions, retarded US audience is used to be entertained with.
Sometimes it is about the life itself, portrayal of subtleties and exchange of glances, that is enough to speak more than words or actions.
And that is what Asian cinematography is all about, as the Tao, Zen and Buddhist religion is also.
Knowing and attaining knowledge of such occurrences enriches a person, as everything has its Yin and Yang, Takeshi's movies are just about that.
Even the dark side has its codes to live by.
Showing it in the movies, as it is an integral part of the culture, and saying it is an exploitation, is the same as saying the US movie authors exploit the civil, Vietnam, Gulf, 9/11, and any war or event.

Choose your words more wisely next time, when you talk about an esteemed movie author.

JackCrow, learn the definition of words before you jump to the defense of your 'esteemed movie author...'
Another word for exploit would be to use or utilize; it does not have to have the negative connotation you seem to think it does.
That you jumped to that conclusion is odd given the context..

The definition of words and context is quite clear methinks.
It is the same as saying Oliver Stone exploits all wars to be famous.

She made a connotation, rest of us just followed up on it, saying she is wrong.

Did SHE ask HIM if he "exploited" something in person, highly doubtful, even more doubtful she ever will.

So using a frequented space to speak like she does, with no credit in cinematography ( or reviewing) she has, is ridiculous.

And the fact that you are defending her, is odd, but hey, it takes all kinds...

Sorry to break it to you guys but I used the term correctly. If we need a dictionary definition:

As for the loss of energy, note how I say "some" not "I". Frankly, I haven't seen much of Kitano's recent work but from discussions with friends who have seen them, that's the general feeling. And it's NOT a derogatory one, only a note on how different it is from his early work. That's it.

This is getting better and better, you have not actually even seen his work and you draw conclusions; babe, maybe in row3009 and twitter it cuts, here it does not.
Hearsay is just that, see it then comment, as for your friends, you know takes one to know the others, maybe they too did not see them, but read online. LOL

I trust my friends, thanks very much. If they feel the work wasn't as energetic, who am I to disagree? It amuses me that you pick just one of the uses of the word and not the other. Seems like a petty complaint especially when the trailer still looks cool.

Finally we agree, about the main topic, indeed it does look good.

It is just that I am used to read YOUR own views on this site; at least I got accustomed to it from other reviews - here so far, as the others chip in with comments.

Next time, in your place I'd take time to find out on my own, what I think, as it is well worth it.
