Marina Antunes [Film Festival 02.04.10] trailer news drama

Anyone who considers themselves well versed in American indie cinema of the last few years has seen at least one of these indie classics: Wendy and Lucy (review), Paranoid Park and Old Joy. If you haven't seen at least one (if not all of these), you really need to get cracking but I'm not here to admonish your viewing practices, only to share awesomeness so here we go.

The producers of those three films have gathered their considerable knowledge and provided yet another entry into the indie cannon. Matt McCormick's directorial debut Some Days are Better than Others certainly looks the part: beautiful cinematography, cryptic trailer, wicked cast. The film stars former Sleater-Kinney guitar hero Carrie Brownstein and Shins frontman James Mercer in an exploration of “abundance, emptiness, human connection and abandonment while observing an interweaving web of awkward characters who maintain hope by inventing their own forms of communication and self-fulfillment.”

It's a spiffy looking trailer and even thought the film sounds like it's ubber depressing, I'm on board to check it out. Let's see if this production team has what it takes to deliver yet another winner.

Trailer after the break.

Ugggghhhh! This is the kind of maudlin crap that helped kill indie cinema. Who talks like that? Even more pointless than Wendy and Lucy. Look solemn, speak directly about your pain in eloquent, short bursts then look to the sky. Cut and print!

I wasn't aware that indie cinema was dead. It looks alive and well to me. And this film looks very nice.

Nick, you're dead on. Mumbleporn has ruined the reputation of independent film. It once was Stranger Than Paradise and now it's crap like Old Joy. And as for the person who said the film "looks very nice"...well, that's who falls for it.

How long does it take for a broken heart to heal? I'm not sticking around to find out. This is what happens when you give camcorders to high school students.

How obnoxious to tell me the "three indie films I gotta see." What does this film even have to do with this website's mantra? Has Quiet Earth merged with Lifetime and DeGrassi High?
