Albert Pyun is extremely happy with how his sword and sorcery epic, Tales of an Ancient Empire, is shaping up. Below are some words he recently published on his official site:

"It’s clear to me that Tales of an Ancient Empire is by far the best film I have ever made. Yeah, I know I’ve said that before because each film I’ve made had some aspect, maybe it was a performance, a camera move, a turn of character, but there was always something, some moment, big or small that made it my best at the time. But looking at Tales from all sides and being as objective as I can possibly be, each moment of the film, consistently represents my best work.

How I know this as being true is that it doesn’t even seem like one of my films. No moment of cringe; no lapse in logic or sanity, and every time I watch it, it just feels right. It’s the first time I have been able to mesh my experimental concepts with, still low budget but large for me and close to create a real movie movie. It’s the first time since Mean Guns and Postmortem where I have the right stars, a sufficient budget and freedom to complete my vision without interference.

While I can’t be certain the foreign version of the film will purely reflect my vision, the North America version will. It will represent the very best I can do and, I think, represents the best work from Tony Riparetti, Phillip Waters, Sazzy Calhoun and Cynthia Curnan."

As we speak, Pyun is busy filming extra scenes of carnage to insert into the film. He has even added an all new character to the mix - a daywalking vampire - played by his new muse Victoria Maurette.

We're told that a trailer will be ready on April 8th and the film is already available to pre-order with a ship date of April 23 attached. The crazy news? Albert is including a newly, and yet unheard commentary for his post-apocalyptic hit, Cyborg with the DVD set. The commentary even includes much of the film's original score that was never used. Man, I'm like in cult movie nerd heaven.
