Our friend Avery has pointed the way to a seemingly Lovecraft related feature which the excellent Undead Backbrain got first dibbs on. It's from the same director who did the excellent looking The City in the Sky and revolves around a submarine fighting the commies in 1965. Why do I think it's Lovecraft related? First, the abyss quote used in the trailer. Second, the black ooze on one of the sailors hands. I dig it. Footage will be shown at the Cannes market as they look for more backers. Give em some dough!
At the height of the Cold War, in the depths of the North Sea, a British submarine in search of an elusive Soviet weapon will find a far more terrifying enemy lurking in the deep.
Check out the trailer after the break.

Dammit, Lovecraft and desinger shoes; now that's terror.

The Man from the Ministry (10 years ago) Reply
What exactly does a message about shoes in garbled English have to do with this film, exactly?

Looks good. Just hope that guy reading the magazine doesn't indicate it'a a Sphere rip-off

I thought the phrase was "if you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you" which to me is more sinister. It implies that any darkness that you look into will grow within you. The first part of the quote is "Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster". Nietzche

I expect to creature to be simply a giant octopus, because of what I perceive is ink on the hand of the sailor. But it would be extra cool if there were more to it. Indeed that excellent old HPL story about a German submarine that sinks next to myserious old ruins comes to mind....

Certainly looks better than 'Below'.

Exactly my first thought, BristleKRS!

Looks pretty cool. Does anyone know the Lovecraft story that was mentioned?

dgc2 (10 years ago) Reply
the story in question is HPL's 1920 short story, "The Temple"
I can't wait for this, handsome sailors, nameless, dread, tentacles, and the dear old Cold War, how is this not a win?
