Christopher Webster [Celluloid 06.04.10] movie trailer

Andrew Traucki’s (Black Water) new Australian creature-feature, The Reef, has finally received trailerage! Personally, I've always been sort of terrified of drifting in open water and I know I'm not alone. It just feels like there's some kind of pre-historic water creature down below somwhere starring up at you. Creeps me out. That's why I love stranded in the water flicks.

For four backpackers it seemed like a dream come true. A Week cruising the world's most beautiful coral reef, on their own Yacht. But when their boat capsizes leaving them stranded on an overturned hull the dream turns into a nightmare. What should they do? Stay with a damaged hull that could sink at any moment or try to swim for land! Finally deciding to swim, the friends take to the water. As they close in on land a fin surfaces and with it the realization that they are being stalked by a deadly fifteen foot white pointer shark. Will any of them make the swim or will the sea take what it wants?

The Reef is in post-production and screened at Cannes, so we might actually see it soon.

Carnage after the break.

Open water with a little bit of Jaws thrown in. Unoriginal, but still could be good.

Yeah, I can't imagine this topping Open Water... but, as you say, might be good.

The way I see it, won't have to do much to top Open Water. To me, that one was way overrated .
