Marina Antunes [Celluloid 09.21.10] movie news short comedy fantasy

So there are these guys. We’ll call them the Brownlee Brothers. They worked on some art/press stuff for The Libertine (one of the dirtiest movies I’ve ever seen). Along the way, they must have made friends because the next thing we know, they’re directing a really cool looking short film which was written and stars Rupert Friend and Tom Mison.

A dark fantasy/comedy film, The Continuing and Lamentable Saga of the Suicide Brothers is the story of two brothers, played by Mison and Fiend, who live in a fairytale land known as Bavaria and who break up the monotiny of their lives by trying to kill themselves every day (obviously unsuccessful as they’ve had multiple attempts) while a "long suffering fairy," played by the nearly unrecognizable Keira Knightley, looks on.

The short has made it’s way online (it’s available on iTunes) and I’ve got to admit, I’m really looking forward to checking this out. The trailer caught my attention immediately and between that, the new clips for the film and the image gallery, I’m more than curious to see what the Brownlee’s have to offer.

Trailer, clips and image gallery after the break.

hmmmm...... yet to be impressed by this. The clips offer little other than comic strip narrative, cinematography and production design.

This is in a similar vein and much better

Comparing someone's first short film to a feature length film by an auteur like Guy Maddin is totally unfair. Watched the film last night and it was cute and enjoyable. Well worth the 1.99

Lol, I wish I'd had Keira Knightly in my first short. It appears that these Bros. aren't that newb to film making if you check their website (http://brownleebrothers.com/)

BTW not an armchair critic ;)
