Christopher Webster [Celluloid 01.04.11] China movie news horror

Read this interesting bit of news over at those fine purveyors of Asian cinema, 24FPS, and thought I'd share the oddness. It seems China is planning at 15M yen 3D creature feature about everyone's favourite Kokannee beer swilling Bigfoot (aka the Yeren or Wildman).

Tentatively named "Primary Zone," the film will follow a group of scientists searching the remote mountains in Hubei Province for the mythical beast.

How the film is exactly "Avatar-like" besides its use of 3D remains to be seen, but that's what is being reported.

More as it comes creature feature fans!

15m yen is only USD $182,859

I'm sure with that kind of cash this movie will rival Avatar!

A budget of $15 mil is huge for a Chinese/Hong production, and would equate to an approx $40-50 mil spend of a Hollywood movie. So yes, it actually might be very good indeed. More money doesnt equal a better movie. We see plenty of examples of that foolish idea, day in day out

The currency unit of China isn't the yen, it's the yuan.

And yeti and sasquatch are different species, duh.
