Marina Antunes [Celluloid 02.17.11] Mexico zombies movie trailer news action thriller drama

Zombies aren’t always my cup of tea but partnered with a good story and I can get on board with almost anything. That’s the case with Alejandro G. Alegre’s upcoming full length feature, an indie production out of Mexico called The Infected (Los Infectados).

Written and directed by Alegre, the story takes place after the outbreak of an unknown virus turns everyone into hungry, rabid creatures. Trying to stay alive, Marcos, Claudia, Renato and five year old Zoe, head into the wilderness and hide out on the mountain side hoping to stay alive. Sadly, when the world is overrun by creatures who want to eat your brains, survival is a little more difficult that just hiding far from the cities and soon the group is surrounded by the creatures that wonder closer and closer to their camp.

Alegre’s film looks nice and the lush, mountainous setting is certainly a little different but he has no qualms admitting to the fact that his film is an homage to 28 Days Later and Dawn of the Dead.

The film is currently in post-production and I hope we get to see a longer trailer in the near future. For now, take a look at the effective teaser. The sound design of this trailer does wonders for the teaser as a whole.

Trailer, along with a second, equally awesome poster, after the break.

It looks great?...really? Why? Another Run-of-the-mill zombie film. This genre is so tired.
