Ever felt like you're disconnected from events in your life? That disconnect is at the centre of Bryan Hiltner’s Slippage.

The film, which also stars the writer/director in the lead role of Sanders, features a young man dealing with the death of his mother and the loss of his girlfriend at approximately the same time. He doesn’t think he’s having the “proper” emotional response to the events unfolding in his life so he goes to see Doctor Elton, a spiritual enthusiast who believes that Sanders needs to let go of his emotions and open his soul up to fully experience the pain he’s suffered and get over the loss of his mother and girlfriend. Shortly after starting treatment, Sanders discovers a whole other world in his closet – a desert that stretches as far as his eyes can see. He spends the nights that follow exploring the desert and dreaming of a mysterious cave. Is any of it real or is he losing his mind? Can Sanders get over his abandonment issues and learn to forgive the woman who abandoned him when he most needed her help? And what of this girl friend? She appears at the doctor’s door trying to find answers now that Sanders has been missing for a week.

I really like the look of Hiltner’s film which was shot in Oregon and I’m curious to see how this story unfolds and what exactly any of it (the desert, the cave, the strange robed figure with the white eyes) means. I like that the trailer doesn’t provide any answers and just poses lots of questions, questions that I’m curious to know the answers to. This is most definitely rooted in reality but with some serious sci-fi accents. Very likely, this is all taking place in Sanders’ mind as part of some coping mechanism. Either way, this story is one I’m looking forward to finding out more about.

Slippage is due for release in the fall.
