Marina Antunes [Celluloid 04.08.11] movie trailer news drama

I’ve always thought there was more to Mark Ruffalo than simply being a great actor. It’s something in the eyes. My thoughts were cemented when a trailer emerged for Ruffalo’s directorial debut, a drama titled Sympathy for Delicious.

Written by Christopher Thornton, the film also stars the first time scribe in the titular role of 'Delicious' Dean O'Dwyer, a recently paralyzed DJ who goes searching for healing in the world of religion. He discovers that he has the power to heal others but alas, he can’t heal himself.

I’m not a huge fan of this trope which usually pits an individual with the decision to go into hiding or help others, mostly because they all end the same way: with the healer giving himself into helping others and eventually finding some sort of help/cure for him or herself. However, this cast, which includes Orlando Bloom, Juliette Lewis, Laura Linney and Ruffalo himself (playing a priest), along with the fact that Ruffalo is trying his hand at something else, really has me interested. To boot, the trailer isn’t so bad either.

The film is scheduled for limited release in the US on April 29th.

The power to heal and help others is what you need to heal yourself, it is not the world of the flesh that people should be concerned about, it is the ether of their very soul.
Applied:
Ephesians 6:12

I like the premise, the cast, and by what I see the execution.

On the list.

Many thanks.
