Marina Antunes [Celluloid 05.17.11] movie trailer news thriller drama

Whenever I read a synopsis for a film that deals with individuals locking themselves away and obsessing over each other, I get flashbacks to Matthias Glasner's traumatizing The Free Will. That's not necessarily a bad thing but it puts me on alert. So here we have a story that features just that: two individuals who lock themselves up to obsess over each other until they basically go crazy.

Directed by Scott Peake from a novel by award winning author Elizabeth Engstrom, Candyland stars James Clayton and Alexandra Essoe as Peter and Tess, two individuals for whom an exciting one night encounter turns into a "permanent self-exile from society that degenerates into their true savage nature." Just reading this sounds like it'll end badly and judging from the film’s very short first teaser, it is indeed going to end very badly.

I'm not familiar with Engstrom's novel but I'm definitely curious to see a twisted, psychological thriller. With the pair locked up in an apartment, alone, I also get flashes of William Friedkin's Bug and if it manages to deliver even a fraction of the awesomeness of that film… I want to know where to buy my movie ticket.

We'll be keeping an eye out for a full trailer for the film but for now, check out the teaser after the break.
