Marina Antunes [Celluloid 06.17.11] movie trailer news fantasy

I find the music selection in this new redband trailer for Conan The Barbarian a bit questionable - the track adds nothing to the awesomeness - but aside from that, this is looking pretty sweet.

There's really not much more to say. If you haven't seen the first trailer watch it here, a batch of character posters can be found here and most importantly, a list of movies to help you get to Conan, which opens on August 19, can be found here.

Trailer after the break.

A couple small annoying things in that trailer, but it's looking like it could be a decent Conan movie. Schwarzenegger will always be Conan, at least to me, but this looks pretty good. The music didn't help it at all, and the girls canned scream when she gets her face cut is annoying as hell, but still, it's just a trailer. Here's hoping they stick to regular movie scores, instead of shitty wanna-be rock tunes in the actual movie

Yeah, the rock track blows bloody monkey chunks. Also, this dude just doesn't look like a barbarian. They should have just gotten The Rock, had him get totally ripped (something he's never done before on camera) (he's always just been pumped up). Conan is a huge fella, and so is Dwayne Johnson. This guy, not so much.

Also, the glib dialogue is totally out of character.

I'll never understand Hollywood's obsession with ignoring perfectly good, box-office hit material like any of the great Conan originals---such as "Red Nails" or "The Hour of the Dragon" to name a very few (and all easily translatable into screenplays)---and instead churning out insipid, cliche-ridden dreck like this. Hell, even the first Conan movie with Herr Schwarzenegger (which I enjoyed in the theater), was pretty pointless when compared to drastically superior story-telling by Howard.

I don't know when or who thought adding rock/metal over action secenes in fantasy/barbarian movies was a good idea, but I wish they were....well not shot...but please stop it!

OK, OK, it's maybe only in the trailers/teasers, but it better not be in the movie.

Momoa I thought would be too 'cute' to play Conan. But his Khal Drogo is good, so we'll see :)

If Peter Steele were alive, he'd be perfect as Conan :)
