The first images from The Hobbit have appeared online and it's a strange feeling seeing the LOTR world being brought back to life again. I loved the trilogy and while I'm still a little shell shocked that Guillermo del Toro left the project, having PJ on the case to get it all right seems like the right fit.

The new images feature Martin Freeman as Bilbo (you'll notice also a certain company of Dwarves behind him) and Ian McKellen as Gandalf.

No, we're not planning to report on every bit of news that comes from The Hobbit camp. There are a plethora of other resources for that *coughs* The One Ring, but this feels like an important moment for some reason.

Fans might also be interested to now that the LOTR Extended Editions hit Blu-ray next week.

The Hobbit is scheduled to be released Dec. 14, 2012

The images originally appeared on EW.com this morning with a promise of more inside their next issue. Check them out after the break.

I for one am glad del Toro did not take on the Hobbit, if he botched it up like Pans Labyrinth then there would be a number of us oldies who would have been very disappointed, PJ rules with Tolkien imagery. Not since Cronos has Toro done anything really outstanding,The Hellboy movies were great to look at but still had that rancid smell of "Hollywould if it could "on them.He is one of a few director/producers who seem to pick some of the most bizarre movies to be involved with , talent galore but incapable of being true to the original stories.
