Marina Antunes [Celluloid 08.04.11] movie trailer news thriller



We're always on the lookout for innovative thrillers so when I stumbled across Comforting Skin, I was instantly taken with the story and have been eagerly anticipating the opportunity to share a bit of news on the project. The time has come.

Written and directed by Derek Franson, it's the story of a lonely young woman (Victoria Bidewell in her first starring role) in "desperate need for emotional and sexual companionship draws her into a surreal and ultimately destructive relationship with a shifting and whispering tattoo she has willed to life on her skin."

Initially shot for $100,000 raised from private investors and with a little help from Telefilm Canada who provided funds for post production, the film is now nearing completion and we finally have a good look at what Franson and his talented team, including VFX wiz Ollie Rankin who has worked on Harry Potter and the upcoming Red Dawn and J. Edgar, have put together.


The first stills from the film are dark and gorgeous but the trailer is the real gem. It's very creepy and the music is used to great effect. We only see a glimpse of the mysterious tattoo but it's enough to peak my interest.

Umm, this isn't that original. There was a *very* similar X-Files episode about a killer tattoo that aired in 1997, so it's an idea that's been around for awhile. Actually, it's a pretty good ep, so if you like this you should check it out :)

Ooops, I forgot to say the XFiles episode is called Never Again. It has Jodie Foster as the voice of the tattoo. LOL.
