Marina Antunes [Celluloid 01.04.12] USA scifi horror drama mystery

Last year, the creative group at Vinegar Hill productions released the Cosmonaut. A seven minute short film about a man who leaves earth and returns years later to find the world empty, the film co-written and directed by David Altrogge is a beautiful wordless tale of love with a sci-fi twist that had me wondering what else the folks behind the production were working on. Turns out their new project, a full length feature titled Twin Reflex, is well into production with a scheduled completion of mid-2012.

Altrogge has stepped behind the camera to capture Twin Reflex which tells the story of Roy Cawl, a young man working a dead end job and living with his younger sister. Suffering from insomnia, he spends his nights spying on the next door neighbour but when paranoia sets in and he begins to think that he's the one being watched, Cawl breaks into the neighbour's house and finds a stash of photographs from various eras all depicting a man who looks exactly like himself.

According to a video on the project's now fulfilled Kickstarter campaign, the film is being shot in a mix of documentary and narrative style and features no script with the filmmaker choosing instead to shoot from an outline of scenes which, I assume, are being shot in sequence with the actors responding naturally to each new situation. I expect that depending on the acting talent, this could either end up being a brilliant approach or a complete disaster but what footage has been cut into the trailer suggests good things to come.

I can't wait to see more from this production. We'll keep you posted as more details emerge but for now the impressive trailer, along with the full the Cosmonaut short, below.
