Marina Antunes [Celluloid 04.19.12] Canada thriller noir

We're always on the lookout for emerging talent and it's always gratifying to find it lurking in your own backyard. Vancouver hasn't always been known as a hotbed of emerging talent but over the last few years, the City has seen a number of creative forces gain some much well deserved attention and the number of talented filmmakers simply continues to grow. Here is another to keep an eye out for: Darcy Van Poelgeest.

A versatile director that has worked on everything from commercials to documentaries, Van Poelgeest has spent the last year working on a passion project called Corvus. Emerging from Van Pelgeest's dual passions of comic books and film noir, the short film stars Ian Tracey (of "Da Vinci's Inquest," "Da Vinci's City Hall" and most recently "Hell on Wheels" fame) as a detective on the trail of the murderer, Matthew MacCaull, of a young woman played by the talented Sara Canning ("The Vampire Diaries," Black Field).

With the film in the can, the writer/director and his team have moved into post-production and are in need of money to finish the project and from what little I've gathered of the production team and the few images I've seen of the film, this is one I would love to see. A few images from the film are below along with a pitch video for the project. If you like what you see, I certainly do!, you will want to head over to their fundraising page and shoot them a few bucks.
