Christopher Webster [Celluloid 06.15.12] scifi action dystopic

Neil Blomkamp made history with the much loved District 9 and his next film, the augmented DNA themed dystopian actioner Elysium (or, Baja Dunes depending on where you're looking) sounds like another winner based on the full synopsis that has emerged.

The synopsis was found on invites to a private screening of the film starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster.

Synopsis:
In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government of?cial, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

Being the diligent news hounds that we are (yeah, right) I tracked some first, previously unseen artwork for the film. Digging the bar code vibe the black and white one.

Elysium also features Sharlto Copley, Wagner Moura, William Fichtner, Sonia Braga, and Diego Luna. It hits theatres March 1, 2013.

I hope the characters are not as polarized as their society(JF all bad and MD all good). It's nice to see that Sonia Braga(Mom of Alice) is in: I think her last role in a movie was in Bordertown(five or six years ago).

Crap! Science fiction movies are usually better without A list actors. Plus, doesn't it kind of play into the movie's premise of the rich and famous getting the best of everything?
