quietearth [Celluloid 06.19.12] horror thriller

Even though the film V/H/S premiered at Sundance, and is comprised of 5 vignettes by different directors like Ti West and Adam Wingard, I left it off the list of reviews I wanted. Then, our own rochefort saw it at SXSW and hated it. Now the trailer has dropped, and I have to say, it looks pretty damn good.

A POV, found footage horror film from the perspective of America's top genre filmmakers. A group of misfits are hired by an unknown third party to burglarize a desolate house in the countryside and acquire a rare tape. Upon searching the house, the guys are confronted with a dead body, a hub of old televisions and an endless supply of cryptic footage, each video stranger than the last.

I'm not a hater of the POV technique. But the biggest problem with the genre isn't a lack of good ideas, it's that I don't necessarily believe that people under extreme pressure or panic would still be filming. I can rarely get past that.

So sick of the found footage schtick.

Well, it started all the way back in 1980, so I doubt it'll ever go away.
