Marina Antunes [Celluloid 01.08.13] apocalyptic comedy

Quite honestly, the last thing I'll be thinking about when the apocalypse hits is "Hey, lets get in a car and rive across the country!" I'm not sure that's exactly what happens here, the synopsis only has the best friends diving from LA to Austin, but it's safe to assume that when the end does come, Austin is probably a better place to be than LA right?

Best Friends Forever is co-written by Brea Grant and Vera Miao, both of whom star as the roadtripping besties, while Grant plays triple duty by also making her directorial debut. As already alluded to, the story follows the pair, Grant as a "perpetually optimistic comic-book artist" who, with her best friend (Miao), make their way to Austin to start a new life. Sadly, the apocalypse strikes and they find themselves on the road with all of the hardships you might expect: lack of water, lack of fuel, eventual lack of food... doesn't exactly sound funny but this is billed as a dark comedy and I'm more than a little curious to see what sorts of laughs Grant and Miao squeeze out.

Best Friends Forever is screening at Slamdance later this month. Check out the website for screening dates and times.
