Ralph Bakshi is at it again. The button-pushing animator hasn't released a movie since 1997's Malcom and Melvin but he's not down for the count and he's taking to crowd sourcing to fund his first film in more than a decade.

Last Days of Coney Island is being described as "an animated cop, mafia, horror movie set in the 1960s in Coney Island, with political overtones both realistic and outrageous," a collection of short movies featuring "crooked cops, broken hearts, jaded strippers, and singers."

Bakshi is asking supporters to help fund the completion of the first short in the series with plans to release it online, "where they belong," with hopes that the others will follow and eventually lead to the full length collection he has envisioned.

The pitch video is impressive and it already features some new work from Bakshi though the real seller for hardcore fans, as if new material wasn't enough, will be some of the rewards which include original production drawings and cells from various classic Bakshi projects along with personalized character sketches and artwork.

The pitch video is below and you can find the entire campaign, complete with rewards, at the project's Kickstarter page.

Hat tip to JamesR for sending this our way.
