Marina Antunes [Celluloid 02.13.13] post apocalyptic scifi drama western

A few years ago Jake Paltrow re-emerged on the scene with news about an upcoming project titled Young Ones which sounded extremely promising. Set in the near future where water is a scarce commodity, it's the story of a 14 year old boy who steps into the role of protector for his family after his father's death.

We first heard about the project in 2011 when it made an appearance at AFM, complete with a gorgeous poster and the tagline "Not all children have a childhood." At the time there was little news on casting with the exception of Elle Fanning being attached to star, likely as the young boy's sister.

It's been some time in developing but Paltrow's project kicked off principal photography earlier this month and with the announcement came news of the rest of the cast which includes, in addition to Fanning, Michael Shannon, Nicholas Hoult (of recent Warm Bodies (review) and upcoming Jack the Giant Slayer fame) and Kodi Smit-McPhee, a familiar face in genre fare thanks to appearances in The Road, Let Me In (review) and the upcoming Stanislaw Lem adaptation of The Congress (footage).

It remains to be seen if Paltrow can pull this off but the elements seem to be lining up nicely. Fingers crossed.
