Marina Antunes [Celluloid 02.28.13] Canada comedy drama

Here's a coming of age story the likes of which we haven't seen before. The elements are all familiar: there's an awkward nice boy who's picked on and grows up into a lonely teenager who is obsessed with something. He meets a girl and his entire life goes into tale spin.

What you may have guessed from the title is that Mica, the boy in question, was born with a disorder of some sort which causes him to smell like fish. All the time. He quickly discovers that if he's in the water, the scent isn't noticeable and so he starts spending as much time as he can in the pool which leads to his run in with Laura, a fellow swimmer who Mica develops a crush on. There's also something about Mica's house being a museum to a Mexican singing legend. The trailer is as bizarre as the story sounds but also a bit of fun and I love the twist on the coming of age drama.

Douglas Smith (best known from HBO's "Big Love") stars as Mica, Zoe Kravitz is his romantic interest, Don McKellar as Mica's father and Carrie-Anne Moss as Mica's shrink.
