When we posted the first trailer for Terrence Malick's To the Wonder, Agentorange nailed my exact feelings of what Malick is getting at with his films. This idea that we're merely a spec in the bigger picture is something which came through magnificently in Tree of Life (review) but with his new feature, he seems to be getting at something much more personal. I'm beginning to think that Malick is more concerned with ideas and emotions and whereas Tree of Life was a rumination of where we fit within the universe, To The Wonder is an exploration of the notion of love. What it means to love and be loved and to lose.

This newly released trailer appears, to me at least from my foggy memory, to be very similar to the one we posted before and which has since been taken down but it's worth a re-post if only to marvel at the gorgeous imagery. This appears to be typical Malick: a wondering, pseudo-narrative exploration of a big idea, and I can't wait to see how it turns out.

To the Wonder opens April 12 in New York and LA before expanding wide.
