Marina Antunes [Celluloid 03.08.13] horror slasher thriller

Talk about resurrecting something from the dead. That's certainly true with news that Jonathan Levine's All the Boys Love Mandy Lane is finally getting a release. Hopefully they're not lying to us this time around.

Originally produced in 2006, Levine's debut saw theatrical release in a number of markets but it failed to open at home where those who had seen it at various festivals had good things to say while the rest of us waited around for a release date. Radius has announced that they will be releasing Mandy Lane late this summer, seven years after it first premiered at TIFF's Midnight Madness. Better late than never I guess.

For those who may have forgotten what it's about, Mandy Lane stars Amber Heard as a good girl who developed into a hot girl over the summer. She gets invited to a party at a secluded ranch where kids start mysteriously disappearing.

Initial reviews called this a great slasher and it's one that had been on my watch list for a while but when it failed to see release, I completely forgot about it. It'll be interesting to see if the reception has changed since 2008. Levine now has two successful films under his belt (the cancer comedy 50/50 and this year's zombie romance Warm Bodies (review)) and a handful of promising potential follow-ups.
