Marina Antunes [Celluloid 04.25.13] thriller drama mystery

We had already seen a pretty great trailer for Zal Batmanglij's eco-thriller The East (review) but that first trailer didn't really provide much in the way of plot details but a newly released trailer doesn't only provide more plot details but it answers a few questions.

Batmanglij's follow up to Sound of My Voice (review) stars collaborator Brit Marling as Sarah, a corporate spy tasked with infiltrating the ranks of an eco-terrorist group that goes by the name "The East." Her goal is to find out what they're up to and from the looks of it, stop them before they do any real damage. Group members include Alexander Skarsgard, Ellen Page and Shiloh Fernandez while Patricia Clarkson seems to be playing the corporate representative guiding the operation.

I really enjoyed Batmanglij's Sound of My Voice and it's great to see him and Marlin still playing with cults (of sorts). So far The East looks and sounds like a must see.

The East opens May 31st.
