quietearth [DVD News 05.15.13] post apocalyptic scifi adventure

Yes people this is actually happening. Shout! Factory are releasing a Blu-ray for 1975′s A Boy and His Dog (aka Apocalypse 2024).

For most of you, the film needs no intro, but for the rest of you, A Boy and His Dog is the story of a boy and his telepathic dog who work together as a team in the post-apocalyptic world.

Written and Directed by L.Q. Jones and starring Don Johnson, Susanne Benton and Jason Robards, the film is considered a classic of 70s satirical cinema as well as the PA genre.

Based on the award-winning novella by acclaimed science-fiction author Harlan Ellison, A Boy and His Dog is a dark, twisted and sometimes comical trip through a post-apocalyptic reality in the not-too-distant future.

No thanks- I'm waiting for the 2015 remake. This is a great story, but the original film's lack of CGI and reliance on story over spectacle just leaves me cold. Here's to hoping we get Vin Diesel as Vic and a CGI cyborg pit bull as Blood. I'm sure that's how Ellison envisioned it.

C'mon- you know you want Megan Fox as Quilla June!
Seriously though- this film was my intro to PA cinema. I first saw it on Showtime in a cheap motel on a road trip with my father many years ago. I'm sure I've watched it close to a hundred times.
