I guess Terry Gilliam didn't get the memo that 42 is the answer to everything because he's now making a movie about a guy trying to discover the reason for human existence. Good thing he missed the memo because that guy happens to be none other than Christoph Waltz and that movie happens to look fantastic.

The Waltz fandom, followed shortly thereafter by entertainment websites, exploded yesterday when what looks to be a sales trailer for Terry Gilliam's The Zero Theorem appeared on line. The studio was pretty quick in squashing the leak but alas, once online these things have a tendency to multiply and as is the case, a copy or two are still floating around online and it is something to behold.

Waltz plays Qohen Leth, a reclusive genius hacker who is trying to solve the Zero Theorem but his attempts are constantly thwarted by an entity known only as Managemen. In a brash attempt to sideline Leth's work, Management sends a sweetling of a girl to distract Leth with sex. Along with Waltz, the movie also stars David Thewlis, Melanie Thierry, Tilda Swinton, Ben Whishaw and Matt Damon.

It's as wacky and zany as expected from a Gilliam production and it's looking promising, reminiscent of Gilliam's best work in Brazil and 12 Monkeys.

No news yet on North American release though The Zero Theorem is scheduled to open in a few European markets in late 2013 early 2014. If you're curious, take a peek at the trailer below before it gets yanked. Again.

Always excited about a new Gilliam film. Strange they didn't list Matt Damon's appearance in the film.

Brazil meets Inception meets Minecraft? I love Gilliam and can't wait to see this, but the trailer has a 'Brazil 2: Electric Boogaloo' feel to it. I have faith that Terry will keep it fresh.
