For better of worse, Zack Snyder's 300 was a trend setting film in terms of showing what was possible in the realms of creating fantastical green screen worlds that audiences would swallow. Where films like Avatar go for photo-realism, 300 went for a more textured, illustrative look that set a new identity for historical epics (Immortals aped it in a big way).

It was also a huge money maker for Legendary and Warner Bros. so of course we'd get a sequel and now here's the first trailer.

Based on Frank Miller's latest graphic novel Xerxes, and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster "300," this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistokles attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war.

"300: Rise of an Empire" pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes, and Artemisia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy.

Actually pleasantly surprised and looking forward to this now. Was thinking it might be a total bust but it looks pretty damn cool.
