Marina Antunes [Cathode Ray Mission 07.10.13] comedy

Here's the thing with bad movies: if you're going to make them, don't try cover them up and sell them as something good. It makes people angry that they were duped into a trashy movie by marketing that was selling something completely different. SyFy seems to have learned this a number of movies back and they, with the help of the folks at Asylum, have pretty much cornered the market on ridiculous movies. I've stopped caring but when the trailer for the upcoming Sharknado started popping up everywhere, I figured there was nothing to lose other than 66 seconds.

It's a glorious 66 seconds of ridiculousness that is even better than the title possibly suggests. It stars a bunch of washout stars in a movie about sharks that are carried... oh forget it. What do you need a plot for when you have sharks flying around in a tornado and the memorable line "we're going to need a bigger chopper!"?

Sharknado hits TV screens Thursday, July 11 on SyFy.

This is hysterically bad. The fx are a mix of terrible 80s props and acceptable CGI. Coming soon to a Redbox near you!

I wish I'd been a fly on the wall at the pitch meeting where Sharknado creator explained the show's concept to execs. I imagine him saying: "Okay, guys, here's the deal. Sharknado. Sharks flying around in a tornado!!. Cool, isn’t it?"

And, unbelieveably, they said yes!

What I'd like to know, is who funds this stuff? If dreck(?) like this gets made, this gives me hope that my dreck screenplay would someday get made. Maybe I'll call up the Asylum and pitch it to them (kidding)

I can forgive everything in that trailer, other than the fact that Asylum gave sharks the ability to roar.

I watched this yesterday while home with the flu.

SERIOUSLY??? People pay for this crap?

While I can suspend disbelief (Or take it out the back and shoot it a few times), the thing that seemed to bug me the most was the "Wave shot, calm shot, wave shot, calm shot, then storm shot, calm shot, storm shot, calm shot....

TIP FOR DIRECTOR: If there are suppoosed to be massive waves in one sceen, do not cut a scene with calm water between the two wave sceens etc.
