Marina Antunes [Celluloid 08.29.13] drama

It's been a good year for James Franco. He's appeared in a handful of movies, directed a bunch of others and now his writing is also the basis of a new movie from emerging talent Gia Coppola.

Adapted and directed by Coppola from Franco's collection of short stories, Palo Alto stars Emma Roberts as a teen who catches the eye of the soccer coach, played by Franco though the movie also includes Jack Kilmer, making his film debut, and his father Val Kilmer, in some sort of supporting storyline.

Complicated coming of age? That's exactly what this looks like and though these stories are a dime a dozen, the trailer is charming and beautiful and Roberts is very talented leading me to think this one might be worth keeping an eye on.

Palo Alto will premiere at the Telluride Film Festival tonight.
