When it was announced that Brotherhood of the Wolf and Silent Hill director Christophe Gans would be directing a new version of Beauty and the Beast and that Léa Seydoux and Vincent Cassel were cast in the leads, I expected this would be a slightly twisted, very dark take on the story.

First images suggested that the movie would definitely be dark but also very lush and the first trailer, currently only available sans English subtitles, suggests that this could be far more mainstream than I could have anticipated with huge sets, extensive special effects and even a couple of cute and cuddly looking creatures. This isn't exactly the Beauty and the Beast I expected from Gans but then, the story itself is pretty creepy and I expect Gans will run with some of that.

Beauty and the Beast opens in France on February 12, 2014.

That looks very good and very serious but still magical. I thinking it will be dark but not as dark as say Pan's Labyrinth.
Look forward to it!
