Director Mike Flanagan made a bit of a splash last year with his return to the festival circuit with Oculus. Buzz around the Midnight Madness title wasn't as deafening as some of the other selections, largely because feelings on the movie ranged from brilliantly effective to unsatisfactory. I was hopping that perhaps the first trailer would suggest which way I might fall on it but there's just too little to make a judgement either way.

Dr. Who star Karen Gillan and Brenton Thwaites star as siblings who believe that their parent's mysterious death was caused by a cursed 300 year old mirror. The teaser suggests that the mirror is either a gateway to something terrible or that some evil creature is stored inside. Either way, this sounds like something I'd expect Clive Barker to dream up and though the trailer doesn't really sell me, I'm a bit curious.

We'll find out if Oculus delivers the goods when it opens April 11.
