Marina Antunes [Celluloid 02.12.14] horror

Whether or not you watched or cared for The Purge, last year's attempt at horror with a social message, grossed enough money to fund a couple of spinoffs and so here we are, almost exactly a year later with the first look at The Purge: Anarchy.

No big name stars making a return this time around but writer/director James DeMonaco returns to lead the charge. The story this time focuses on a couple who experience car trouble on the night of the purge and find themselves trying to survive out in the open. I wonder how much they paid Ford for supplying a vehicle that just happens to break down on the worst night of the year.

The Purge: Anarchy opens June 20.

I think this will be more in line with what people thought about the first movie, a more detailed look on what is happening on the outside (that one room type shit is not what most thought it would), now we can hopefully have a look at the society. It is an amazing concept but execution wise it sucked.

P.S. (guys please don't give up on the page please, imo it's the best at what it delivers)

Occupy Wall Street comes to mind. Senseless idiots causing mayhem with approval from the president. The GoPro shot was pretty terrible, though. As spektre said - this is what people wanted, so hopefully it will deliver on the concept. We all loved the concept.

I wanted to like this one, but the concept was better than the execution. State or culturally acceptable cathartic violence has been handled so much better in the past- The Running Man, Battle Royal, King's Long Walk, Death Race 2,000, etc. set a high barre for this genre. Hopefully the second installment will flesh out the concept a little more.

Too bad no one involved actually took the time to research Anarchism.
More sensationalist fear mongering.

I see the right wingers are out in force today. They can't criticize a movie without taking a weak, limp-wristed shot at Occupy Wall Street, Obama, oh god i'm getting sleepy ... zzzzzzz
