Christopher Webster [DVD News 09.30.14] scifi horror thriller



Mike Meyers refuses to die. John Carpenter's first film invented a new kind of modern horror film that we're still seeing facsimiles of today. Shout! Factory have put together all ten Halloween film films including the Rob Zombie remakes into one mid shattering collection that I don't think anyone saw coming.

There are two versions of the set. One is a more comprehensive 15-disc set that includes additional extras and alternate versions of some of the films, the other a 10-disc set. Either way, you're getting a hell of a comprehensive Halloween experience. Not one to be missed by serious horror fans.

Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson star in this post-apocalyptic thriller about a guy looking for his car. It's bleak. It's simple. It's, gritty PA gold.

The Rover comes from acclaimed Australian director David Michôd who's thriller Animal Kingdom was Oscar nominated.




We've been blessed with a ton of truly stellar indie science fiction lately. Films like The Signal that are helping keep mind-bending science fiction alive in the face of Hollywood's push for spectacle over substance.

The film was directed by William Eubank who's last film was the strange yet compelling Angels and Airwaves film LOVE. One way or another, do check it out.




Remember Stake Land? We Are Who We Are? Of course you do. Cold in July is Jim Mikle's stab at a crime thriller and from what I'm hearing it's great.

Michael C. Hall stars as a mild-mannered man who must protect his family from the a man hellbent on revenge after he killed his brother. It's based on a novel by Joe R. Lansdale.




From directors Michael Bartlett and Kevin Gates come the first part in an innovative horror series that mixes fact and fiction in a truly unique way.

In Paranormal Diaries: Clophill, the directors embark on a legitimate documentary of the renowned Clophill, a place of devil worship and supernatural sightings. As things progress, fact and fiction blur to create a truly fascinating and very suspenseful experience. Here's hoping for a second helping soon.

Nice collection of titles today. Loved both THE ROVER and THE SIGNAL and can't wait to rewatch them!
