Marina Antunes [Celluloid 09.05.14] scifi horror romance

Directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead return to the wild world of horror features (the pair have a short in the upcoming V/H/S sequel) with a movie that looks interesting, even if it feels very similar to something else you may have seen earlier this year.

Spring stars Lou Taylor Pucci as Evan, a lost young man who escapes to Italy after a number of tragic events destroy his home life. There he meets the woman of his dreams (Nadia Hilker) except it quickly becomes clear that the beautiful woman is hiding a dark secret.

The story is very reminiscent of Derek Lee and Clif Prowse's Afflicted (review) though the monster here isn't much of a secret and the style of Benson and Moorhead's movie gives it a different, more dreamlike, feel.

Spring premieres today at TIFF and will play Fantastic Fest in a few weeks.

I have no idea. I'm assuming some sort of alien? We'll have to wait to find out!

The movie is set in Apulia so it may have some ties with tarantism(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarantism), maybe with a magic horror twist.
