Marina Antunes [Bunker Blueprint 11.03.14] scifi action

Ever wonder what a POV action movie might look like? Probably a lot like a first person shooter video game. Or at least that's what writer/director Ilya Naishuller's vision of one would look like.

The director came into the limelight last year with a music video for Biting Elbows' "Bad Motherfucker" which caught the attention of Timur Bekmembatov (not surprising if you're familiar with the Russian director's work) who encouraged the young director to continue down the road of POV and the result is Hardcore, a first person, POV action sci-fi story about...

A newly resurrected cyborg who must save his wife/creator ESTELLE (Haley Bennet) from the clutches of a psychotic tyrant with telekinetic powers, AKAN (Danila Kozlovsky), and his army of mercenaries. Fighting alongside Henry is JIMMY (Sharlto Copley), who is Henry's only hope to make it through the day. Hardcore takes place over the course of one day, in Moscow, Russia.

The team is in the process of raising funds for post production so if you want in on this ground breaking, if headache inducing, feature, you can do so at their IndieGogo.

I love the innovation involved here and the fact that Naishuller and his team have committed to the project but watching the three minute preview made me a bit queasy and I can't imagine watching an entire feature shot in this style but then, I'm also not the type to watch gaming so I may not be the target audience but I am curious to see how this comes together.

A POV segment can be cool(e.g. Doom movie), but a whole movie can be boring, imho.

Does anyone else remember that Joe Haldeman's "Forever War", optioned ages ago, was to be the world's first POV movie? It proved unworkable.

Lady in the lake was shot entirely in POV. From 1947. Not quite as many actionfilled scenes though.
The remake of Maniac (2012) is another one, minus a few scenes if I remember correctly.
