Last year it was announced that Compliance director Craig Zobel would be directing a feature film adaptation of Robert C. O'Brien's post-apocalyptic novel "Z for Zacharia."

The story of a teenager who survives a nuclear war in small town America, the adaptation was originally slated to star Amanda Seyfried who has moved on from the project and been replaced instead by Margot Robbie, of Wolf of Wallstreet fame, as Ann (considering Robbie is a little beyond teenage years, it looks like they've changed this part of the story), Chiwetel Ejiofor as Loomis and Chris Pine.

Release of Z for Zacharia isn't due until next year but we have our first look at the film and though it doesn't reveal much, it's certainly an enticing bit of news to get fans interested in the project which is considered a classic to many fans of PA fiction. Looks like it may be time for me to finally catch up with this one. Not only is this an excellent cast but Zobel is an immensely talented director. I expect this won't disappoint.

Big thanks to our friends at 28DLA for the heads up.

You could also check out the 1984 BBC version. Not a completely terrible adaptation of the book, though rather abbreviated.

Was thinking about his some more. I do wonder how the third character in the promo photo will be introduced, as the original story only features two. Hopefully not a forced rehash of the same love triangle/racial tensions found in The World the Flesh and the Devil and in The Quiet Earth. I love those movies and concepts explored within, but that's not what this book was about. Obviously too soon to tell based on one photo, but I'd rather see an accurate modern adaptation.
