Christopher Webster [Celluloid 12.05.14] Canada post apocalyptic action adventure

Turbo Kid started as an entry for The first ABCs of Death competition and, while it may not have made the cut, it captured the attention of a few folks including the good people at EMAfilms, Jason Eisener and ABCs co-producer Ant Timpson who all came together to finance a full length feature version of the fun 80s throwback.

Obviously, we've had our eyes on the project since and now that the film has been selected to premier at Sundance, the first image and poster from the film has appeared online.

In an interview with EW, RKSS (ie. filmmakers Anouk Whissell, François Simard, and Yoann-Karl Whissell) said: “We always envisioned Turbo Kid to be like some lost crazy kids’ movie from the 1980s that’s somehow has just been rediscovered. We wanted a love story with the exploitation elements we grew up with, a post-apocalyptic scenario, over-the-top gore FX, super turbo explosions and a few BMX tricks for good measure. We were going for a retro-inspired aesthetic, not just from an overall visual presentation, but from how the narrative unfolds. We wanted Turbo Kid to appeal to a whole new generation of warped kids (and crazy adults).”

Turbo Kid stars Michael Ironside, Munro Chambers, Laurence Leboeuf among others.

Synopsis:
In a post-apocalyptic future, THE KID, a young solitary scavenger obsessed with comic books must face his fears and become a reluctant hero when he meets a mysterious girl named APPLE. Despite their efforts to keep to themselves, ZEUS, the sadistic and self-proclaimed leader of the Wasteland, plagues THE KID and APPLE. Armed with little more than blind faith and an ancient turbocharged weapon, THE KID learns of justice and friendship and embarks on an incredible journey to rid the Wasteland of evil and save the girl of his dreams.
