Marina Antunes [Cathode Ray Mission 03.10.15] scifi action drama

Netflix and Amazon aren't the only non-traditional networks getting in on the original programming band wagon. Sony Pictures is jumping into the frey with a ten episode run of the sci-fi action drama "Powers," the studio's first scripted series from their PlayStation division. What marks this production particularly worth noting, aside from the fact that Sony is premiering it's first original series on a gaming console not so long after Microsoft closed shop on Xbox Entertainment Studios, is the cast.

PlayStation's new series takes a page from "True Blood" with the action set in a world where people with supernatural powers (known simply as Powers) live side-by-side with regular folk so expect "species" tensions in addition to the procedural drama. The show stars Sharlto Copley and Susan Heyward ("The Following") as homicide detectives who are assigned to investigate murder cases involving people with supernatural abilities. The series also stars Michelle Forbes, Eddie Izzard, Adam Godley, Aaron Farb and Noah Taylor.

The first three episodes of "Powers" are available now via the PlayStation store with new episodes premiering each Tuesday. PlayStation Plus members will have access to the entire first season for free and individual episodes will be available for purchase in the PlayStation store. As incentive, the first episode is currently streaming for free.
