Marina Antunes [Celluloid 05.19.15] post apocalyptic scifi action adventure

Last year's release of The Maze Runner (review) continued the trend of PA YA fiction making its way to the big screen and Wes Ball's movie, an adaptation of the first book in James Dashner's series, turned out far better than anticipated and left the door wide open for a follow-up.

The second entry into the series, The Scorch Trials sees Thomas (Dylan O'Brien), Teresa (Kaya Scodelario) and the rest of the Greenies escape the maze only to find themselves in another facility they must escape from and this one is managed by none other than Littlefinger himself: Aidan Gillen.

Though we don't get to see them in this trailer and their roles are a mystery to those of us who haven't read the books, the movie also stars Giancarlo Esposito, Lili Taylor and Barry Pepper.

Wes Ball returns to the director's chair and it looks like he's keeping up the action and intensity of the first movie.

The Scorch Trials opens September 18.
