Fangoria Magazine, which has been the biggest horror publication since 1979, just made an announcement that could be a game-changer for filmmakers. Eschewing the normal theatrical model where films are shown to a select audience in a single city, Fangoria will instead use the power of streaming to show their selection globally. And they are promising the content will be available on multiple devices including televisions, computers, tablets and phones.

The Fangoria International Online Film Fest will be juried by the likes of George A. Romero, Tom Holland, Tom Savini and others.

The big challenge to Fangoria's success will obviously be how this model disrupts how films are bought by distributors. Usually, distributors decide what to buy at traditional festivals. Will this global vision be better, or worse for distributors? I'm very curious to know the opinions of distributors on this front.

The festival is accepting submissions now.

Fanogia's Announcement:
Today, FANGORIA is proud to announce the FANGORIA International Online Film Festival, our first ever film festival. While the ordinary film festival experience allows films to debut in cities around the world to select patrons, the FANGORIA International Online Film Festival gives horror-centric filmmakers from around the globe the opportunity to premiere their films to a worldwide audience. As times have changed with the distribution and presentation of content, FANGORIA is changing the the film festival experience with it, bringing new, quality genre entertainment- both feature length and shorts- to stream on multiple platforms, such as televisions, computers, tablets and phones.

It’s a horror film festival unlike any other, and all selections from our esteemed jury (featuring George A. Romero, Tom Holland, Tom Savini and more) will have FANGORIA’s seal of approval.

We will be keeping our eyes on this fest for sure.
